I Remember. Digitali immortali was created in 2025 within Officine Sintetiche, the inter-university platform dedicated to digital creativity and new media art and supported by Fondazione CRT.
The project brought together eighteen selected students from the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino – School of New Technologies of Art, the University of Turin – Department of Humanities/DAMS, and the Politecnico di Torino – Cinema and Media Engineering.
The work was developed collectively through an interdisciplinary learning-by-doing process, with the students organised into interconnected working groups.

Vanessa Vozzo accompanied the collective creative process as Artist Facilitator.
Stefano Sburlati contributed as Creative Technologist, with Luca Leli as Technical Assistant.

I Remember. Digitali immortali is a 360° VR open documentary combining 3D environments, stereoscopic live-action footage, spatial sound and AI-generated moving images to explore digital post-mortem.

What happens to our memories, images and online identities when the physical body disappears? Can our digital traces continue to exist, change and act beyond our control?

The work leads the viewer into an algorithmic afterlife: a suspended environment inhabited by fragments of personal memories that progressively recombine, mutate and lose their connection to the people who generated them. Here, memory is no longer a stable archive but a dynamic and unstable material, continuously rewritten by artificial intelligence.

An immersive journey through digital memory

The experience takes place entirely inside a VR headset. The viewer moves through a sequence of liminal environments in which physical boundaries gradually dissolve.

Personal videos and intimate memories emerge as traces of lived experience, but are progressively processed, distorted and regenerated by artificial intelligence. Human recollections become synthetic memories, suspended between testimony, reconstruction and algorithmic imagination.

The journey culminates in an encounter with a monumental face composed of digital particles and fragments of memory. Its repeated whisper – ‘I remember’ – raises an unresolved question: who, or what, is remembering?

Although each participant experiences the work individually, several viewers can enter the virtual environment at the same time. The installation therefore transforms an apparently isolated experience into a shared ritual, placing multiple bodies side by side while their identities are immersed in the same digital limbo.

A collective open documentary

I Remember. Digitali immortali was realized by eighteen selected students from the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino, the University of Turin and the Politecnico di Torino, guided by Artist Facilitator Vanessa Vozzo, with the support of Creative Technologist Stefano Sburlati.

Working in groups and bringing together different artistic, theoretical and technological perspectives, the participants developed the project through a shared process of research, discussion and experimentation. Their personal videos, memories and experiences became the starting materials of the documentary and were progressively translated into images, sounds, 3D environments and immersive sequences.

This collective process is at the core of the work’s open documentary form: the project did not originate from a predefined narrative, but emerged through the exchange between the participants, the memories they contributed and the different ways in which these materials were interpreted and transformed.
